Admissions Procedures and Information

Candidates are encouraged to contact MSEN Program Coordinator Jan Gerston, (979) 845-0750, before submitting applications materials to the Materials Science and Engineering program.

Application
A formal application is required of all persons seeking admission or readmission to graduate studies. Texas A&M University requires students to complete the Texas Common Application on-line.

Students applying for Spring 2009 admission are encouraged to submit their applications by August 1, 2008. We will make every effort to secure assistantships for admitted students.

Test Scores
Required test scores should be sent directly from Educational Testing Service to Texas A&M University (Institution Code 6003). There is no department code. Please leave department code blank, or else fill in with zeros.

Applicants must present scores of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) taken within five years of the date of the Texas Common Application is received.

International students whose native language is other than English must present results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) taken within two years of the date of application with a minimum score of 80 internet-base TOEFL (iBT) or 213, computer-based TOEFL. The TOEFL is waived for international students scoring 400 or above on the GRE Verbal.

Statement of Purpose Essay
All applicants for graduate admissions to Texas A&M University must write a statement of purpose. This essay should clearly state one's research interests, and describe one's background, academic and industrial, if applicable, and interest in materials science and engineering. Please be as specific as possible.

Letters of Recommendation
Applicants are asked to provide three letters of recommendation, along with a completed form by each recommender. Either hard copies of letters in sealed envelopeds or scanned letters attached to an e-mail sent to msen@tamu.edu are acceptable. In the case of e-mailed letters, the e-mail must come directly from the recommender. The on-line system is not yet available. Any hletters of recommendation should be in sealed envelopes inside the prospective student's packet or mailed separately to the program. The on-line system is not yet available.

Resume or curriculum vita
Applicants are requested to e-mail a current CV to the MSEN Program Office at msen@tamu.edu. If the CV is mailed, there is no need to include it in the shipped package.
